Create or Edit Bi-Fold Single/Multiple Sheets Adjustment Procedure
Note:The fold adjustment feature is available only when the Production Ready Finisher, Production Ready Booklet Maker Finisher, or Production Ready Finisher Plus is attached to your press.
The operator and the administrator can create, edit, or delete profiles. To adjust the fold positions for booklets, you first create a profile with the adjustments. The following procedure provides the basic steps required for creating a new or editing an existing bi-fold adjustment profile for either a single sheet or multiple sheets.
1. Make sure that the appropriate stock is loaded in the Production Press and program the tray. For booklets, load the stock Short Edge Feed (SEF).
2. Select Profiles.
The Profiles window appears.
3. Select the Fold Adjustment tab.
4. To create a profile, click the New icon. To edit an existing profile, select the appropriate profile from the list, then click the Edit icon.
The Profile Properties window appears.
5. In the Profile Name field, type in a new name or edit an existing name.
It is recommended that you use a name such as Single Fold Plain or something that indicates the fold type.
6. From the Fold Type menu, select the appropriate fold type, such as Bi-Fold – Multiple Sheets.
7. Select appropriate stock settings, such as Size, Type, Coating, and Weight.
8. For the feed edge, select Short Edge Feed.
9. Select Test Print.
The Fold Adjustment Test Print window appears.
10. From the Tray menu, use the arrow to select the tray with the loaded stock you are using.
11. If you use the trimmer to score pages, set the crease to On. Only the first and last sheets are creased for the booklet. Otherwise, leave this setting to Off.
12. Select Test Print.
A message appears indicating that the test print is being created, followed by a message that the print is complete.
13. To close the message window, select Close.
14. Notice the adjustment area for Set 1 that shows the two dimensions, A and B, that you need to measure and enter.
15. Obtain the Test Print from the output area of the Production Press and hold it in front of the adjustments for Set 1 in the position shown on the window. The large black arrow faces up and points left.
16. Determine if the Left (top icon) and Right (bottom icon) sides of the fold are equal, or if one of the sides is longer. If one side is longer, measure the amount of overlap, which is the distance between the edges. Record the difference in millimeters.
17. Select the correct fold position for either the single sheet or multiple sheets:
Left Side of Fold is Longer
Right Side of Fold is Longer
Left and Right Sides Equal
18. If you select either the Left Side or Right Side of Fold is Longer, set the distance of the overlap using the up arrow. As you enter the amount in millimeters, the image of the fold changes to confirm which edge you selected as longer. Look at the image and verify that it represents the layout of your test print.
19. From the Sheets in Set 1 area, select Test Print, then evaluate the output with the new settings.
20. If you need further adjustments to the new fold positions, repeat the steps. Otherwise, go to the following step.
21. On the right side of the window, based on the weight of the paper selected, the Sheets in Set 2 area shows the maximum number of sheets you can assign to the booklet. You can set this number to the exact number of pages in your booklets, but do not exceed the actual number in this field.
22. On the right side of the window, select Test Print.
23. From the Tray menu, select Start.
24. To make adjustments for Set 2, repeat the steps for Set 1.
25. When all adjustments are complete, select OK. The new or edited fold adjustment profile appears in the Fold Adjustment window.
26. To exit Profiles and return to the main window, select Close.
