Contact Image Sensor (CIS) Operation
This option is used to resolve jams and side registration faults with pre-printed or colored stock. To power on the operation of the CIS in the Registration Assembly, select Yes. The CIS detects the lead edge of each sheet as it enters the registration area, and then the Registration Roll side-shifts the sheet to be aligned correctly with the image on the IBT belt. The CIS then detects the trail edge as it exits. This information is used to coordinate the paper position with the ROS creating the image on the IBT belt.
The process ensures that the image on the belt is aligned with the paper for side registration only. When pre-printed content is on the paper, right up to the inboard edge, or the paper is colored, it is possible that the sensor is not able to read the paper position accurately. To function correctly, the sensor needs a white area on the sheet near the edge. Otherwise, a jam or some malfunction with the side shift can occur. To avoid this issue, power off the sensor so that it is not used.
